To our grantmaker members,
We approach the month of May with mixed emotions. The COVID crisis in India has reached devastating proportions and the restrictions in foreign funding due to recent amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) have further exacerbated the problem.
As a means to encourage faster and more flexible funding, we have pulled a short list of Indian NGOs in our repository with currently valid EDs who provide development, medical, and other life-saving aid to communities in India. You will find this list in the email below the announcement on reduced turnaround times. We are also happy to provide a longer list of Indian NGOs in the repository upon request.
Please contact us if we can further support your effort to respond to this crisis.
New Target Completion Dates
For those grantmakers wishing to request new and renewal EDs, we have positive news to share. NGOsource is currently issuing EDs within roughly two weeks of receiving all completed NGO documentation. Unfortunately (and understandably), we are seeing that many NGOs have yet to emerge from the strains of the pandemic, as the majority of NGOs undergoing the ED process continue to miss their submission deadlines. Consequently, we are not yet able to confidently return to our 4-6-week turnaround commitments. For the month of May, we are projecting the following target completion dates:
- For renewal EDs, we anticipate, on average, certifying within 5-7 weeks
- For new EDs, we anticipate, on average, certifying within 7-9 weeks
As always, these turnaround projections run from the date of request to the date you receive the completed ED certificate.
We have found that we are able to complete many EDs sooner than these projections, but only when the NGOs are able to promptly provide the requested information. For this reason, we encourage you to work with your grantees to submit the questionnaires and supporting documents as soon as they are able to do so.
Better Serving Your Grantees
Given the many constraints that NGOs are experiencing, from the pandemic to political upheaval, NGOsource will be investing significant resources over the coming months to explore ways that we can better educate, inform, and support our NGOs. Not only does this work meet our core mission, but it also helps ensure that your grantees have the resources and localized support they need to complete due diligence requests in a timely manner. Have ideas already? Please do reach out!
Ready-To-Go Indian NGOs in the Repository
The following Indian NGOs working in health and development have currently valid EDs on file with NGOsource. These EDs are accessible to you within 24 hours for only $250.
Please note that not all of these NGOs may currently have valid FCRA registrations on file, which we know may be required for certain grantmakers. We are happy to provide further detail upon request.
We remain available to answer any questions, fulfill expedited requests (as announced in our last newsletter), and accept any feedback or suggestions from you and your grantees. For the quickest response, contact us at accountsupport@ngosource.org. We wish you a safe and fruitful month of May!
With gratitude,
