Also, everything you need to know about the Library 2.0 Small, Rural, and Independent Libraries Conference; Kinder Morgan Foundation grants; free webinars; and your COVID-19 library tech newsbytes for April
We have some super useful resources for you this month — even if your library is closed. We have for you info on how your library can get free Office 365 and steeply discounted Zoom. Our newsbytes this month is densely packed with COVID-19 resources and freebies. Find out about Kinder Morgan Foundation grants, and we cordially invite you to sign up for the free Library 2.0 mini-conference in mid-June that we're co-organizing for small, rural, and independent libraries. It'll be a good one. We promise.
It's all in this April issue of the TechSoup for Libraries newsletter.
Microsoft Office 2010 is soon going to reach its end of support. To avoid security risks, it's time to upgrade to a newer version of Office. The good news is that your library can get free cloud-based Microsoft Office 365 for your administrative PCs from Microsoft Academic, or you can get donated on-premises Microsoft Office Standard 2019 from TechSoup. Here's how to get them.
We're excited to announce a June Library 2.0 mini-conference that is being co-organized by TechSoup. It is "Small, Rural, and Independent Libraries," which will be held online (and for free) on Wednesday, June 17, from 12 to 3 p.m., U.S. Pacific time. Here is everything you need to know.
It's pandemic time, and we've compiled some newsbytes we hope will be useful to you at home or wherever you are. We have news on the new $50 million grant program that is included in the new CARES Act. We have COVID-19 resources from multiple sources. There's the Publishers Weekly list of mostly free online offers we hope you'll like. There's news about waived E-Rate gift rules, free Booklist and Book Links content, and a new bill in Tennessee that threatens librarians with fines or jail time. Just for fun we offer you 2,500 free online museum tours to while away the hours, and also, we report welcome news that Macmillan has quietly abandoned its library e-book embargo. Whew! That's a lot of newsbytes!
